Q. Are the Jets a town-sponsored league?
No. The Jets are a charitable organization pursuant to section 501C(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are not sponsored by any of the towns they serve. The Jets provide access to football and cheerleading as a 100% volunteer organization.
Q. What towns participate in the Jets program?
Suffield is the “base” town for the Jets program which includes participation from Windsor Locks and East Granby.
Q. What towns/teams do the Jets compete against?
The Jets participate in the Northern Connecticut Football League (NCFL) which includes towns from Colchester, Coventry, Cromwell, Ellington, Enfield, Grandy, Portland (with East Hampton), RHAM (Hebron, Andover, Marlborough), Stafford, Tolland, WPTP (Woodstock, Putnam, Thompson, Pomfret).
Q.When does the season begin and end?
The season begins the first week of August and regular season play ends the last week of October. Playoffs begin the first week of November and the Championship Game takes place the Sunday before Thanksgiving Day.
Q. When are games played?
Games are played on Sundays beginning with the D Team at 9 AM, C Team at 11 AM, A Team at 1PM and B Team at 3 PM.
Q. Where are games played?
The Jets home game field is at Suffield High School adjacent to the turf field. Of the 8 game schedule, 4 of the games are played home, 4 are played away. Look under the Directions tab for away game locations.
Q. How many games do the Jets play within a season?
A total of 8 regular season games are scheduled followed by 2 playoff games and 1 championship game. Only the top 8/12 teams qualify for playoffs.
Q. Are Jets coaches certified?
Yes. All Jets Head Coaches are certified by the N.Y.S.C.A. (National Youth Sports Coaches Association).
Q. Do Jets coaches have concussion training?
Yes. All of our coaches have had concussion training. An outline of concussion symptoms and signs are included under the "Concussion Info" tab.
Q. Do you perform background checks on all of your coaches and board members?
Yes. We use National Center For Safety Initiatives Compliance Associate (NCSI), a highly reputable national company to run background checks annually on all of our coaches and board members. The background checks include access to the Sex Offender Registry Records.
Q.How do I get involved more with the Jets?
Jets Board meetings are held the second Monday of each month beginning at 7PM at Suffield Ambulance with the exception of the month of December. All are welcome!
